Welcome to the Murray River and its
extensive Parks and Reserves. This information has been provided by Parks Victoria for the Victorian section of the Murray River. There are
many beautiful beaches along the length of
the Murray River that have been enjoyed
by many people for a long time. Victoria is fortunate to have access to these
areas for day visits, picnics, camping and
recreation. Parks Victoria wants to ensure that
the area is preserved for future generations
to enjoy.
This Murray River information is
compiled by Parks Victoria in conjunction
with a number of partner agencies that
aims to help visitors better understand the
environment of the Murray River and to ensure
your visit is both enjoyable and respectful of
the River Red gum ecology to
help preserve the river environs.
The Red Gum forests of the Murray have
endured a sustained period of drought and
they are sensitive to growing pressures of
recreation and resource use as more visitors
and increased development occurs along
the River. This fact is clearly visible in the
decline of vegetation and ground cover and
it is therefore critical that visitors are aware
of and implement appropriate camping
practices.
Parks Victoria
Rangers work with other local
agencies to help ensure your visit is as safe
and enjoyable as possible. Please feel free
to talk with them about the parklands or
seek their advice on appropriate camping
behaviour as necessary.
Looking after the Murray is everyone’s
responsibility and each small contribution
goes a long way to assisting in maintaining
or improving the overall environmental
condition of the area.
On behalf of Parks Victoria, our staff and Discover Murray, we
hope you enjoy your stay in this magnificent
part of the world.

make to a healthy environment, to the health
of individuals and to a healthy society.
Victoria is fortunate to have inherited a
world class network of parks and reserves, now
accounting for more than 17% of Victoria’s
land mass. Parks Victoria is responsible for
managing these marvellous national, state, regional, reservoir and major metropolitan parks and conservation reserves.
