Moorook, South Australia accommodation, attractions & info

|
Sensational little town surrounded by waterMoorook is one of a series of villages and towns that encircle a group of lakes and lagoons that make up the Riverland region and encompass the Murray River floodplain and wetlands. Two and a half hours by car from Adelaide, these towns which include Berri, Renmark, Loxton, Waikerie, Barmera and Cobdogla, are all within half an hour of Moorook. Acknowledged as the gateway to the wetlands, Cobdogla takes its name from a huge station which for many years bred horses for the South Australian Police and the British Army units in India. Moorook Game Reserve conserves a Murray River floodplain area comprising Wachtels Lagoon and wetlands which feature River Gums and River Box rising from the tangle of lignum fringing the lagoon. A nature trail skirts the edge of the waterways and reeds which protect the nursery area of many waterbirds, frogs and small fish. The park is accessible from the Moorook-Loxton Road.
