9.11.07 River Murray flows to rise over summer

Flows along the length of the River Murray are on the rise as more water is being released from storage to meet summer water demands.

Murray-Darling Basin Commission Chief Executive, Dr Wendy Draik AM, said flows in the Murray system are increased every year over summer to meet demand, and the same is now happning along the River Murray.

Transfers from Dartmouth Reservoir to Hume have begun at low rates and will rise to an average flow of about 4,500 ML/day in mid-November. Flow in the reach between Hume Dam and Yarrawonga Weir is expected to be lower than last season, but is likely to be within the range of 5,000 to 10,000 ML/day. more...

The famous Murray Bridge Bunyip weeps with a lack of visitors. The impact of the drought and media attention is badly hurting all the Murray River communities from the Riverland through to Goolwa. There is plenty of water for recreation in the Murray River and now, more than ever, South Australian river communities really need support from all Australians.

Shane Strudwick from Discover Murray believes that although the Murray regions are struggling with drought, it is important that all Australians know “the Murray still looks as grand as ever and has plenty of water for recreational purposes despite reports. 15.10.07: The Murray River and Lakes are very much open for business…..

On behalf of our members and all operators on the Murray River, the Association wishes to correct misinformation that is out there in the Press and Television Reports.

They sensationalize and misrepresent the operators which they interview to sell papers and airtime. They would have you believe there is no water in the River at all this is simply NOT correct.  There is plenty of water for all recreational and holiday purposes. more....
